Research abstract
We will create a foundation for designing and managing Decisive Interventions – a simulation-based adjunct to planning that enables analysts to explore the adaptive potential of adversaries, and design engagements that both satisfy immediate goals and also thwart the adversary’s ability (or if possible, desire), to adapt and counter friendly action. We will demonstrate that realistic human-systems models of adaptive adversaries can be developed in computational form, validated, managed in simulation studies using Synergia’s Value of Control standard – all to discover which friendly actions to redesign, and to assess redesigns, to create decisive interventions. This work aims to substantially improve the degree to which conflict is effectively managed at each point, and capable of creating stable, lasting results as its final product. We will develop a Decisive Intervention Assistant. It will have three agents, as follows: Facilitate inter-operation with a client planning activity or organization: accept requirements, create a choice model that expresses user requirements, return recommendations for superior action strategies Quantify the value of potential action, information, and value redesigns. Make the alternatives vivid for users Design and manage simulation studies, including their complexity, to revise and improve the choice model over planning options
