Research abstract

In Phase I, we have developed new technologies used for undersea submarine detection. Our system is based on the signal cluster trending analysis for submarine detection and statistical model for false alarm mitigation. We have tested our system with DADS data from six sensors placed in two sensor arrays. Based on our test results, we have been able to detect all the targets listed in the ground truth. In Phase II, we will actively participate in the development of sensor design framework currently being developed at ONR. We will use our submarine detection and false alarm mitigation algorithms to define, verify, test, and enhance the sensor network simulator being developed. As part of Phase II effort, we will also conduct the system trade-off analysis and performance evaluation. There will be a number of parameters which can be varied for performance improvement. There are also many performance objectives and a number of other important performance parameters. In Phase II, we will actively participate in defining these objectives and parameters for the sensor design framework, and make them adjustable from the simulation environment. Our algorithms implemented in Matlab will be ported to C/C++ and used to develop smart sensors and control valves.
