Research abstract

Improved situational awareness in the cockpit is accomplished only when the “right” information is available to the warfighter at the “right” time. Current sensors and systems have the capability to provide such useful information. The Department of Defense (DoD) Network-Centric Warfare (NCW) initiatives have spurred the development of Sensor and Command and Control (C2) networks. With the development of the Global Information Grid (GIG), the infrastructure for ubiquitous information sharing is quickly becoming a reality. What is lacking are 1) services to access this information in a timely and efficient manner and 2) services that allow emerging and future networks to operate with legacy networks. Lakota’s Adaptive Data Exchange (ADX) product will leverage XML technologies to provide flexible, extensible information-enabling solutions to these problems. Through dynamic registration and discovery services, ADX will allow seamless integration of new sensors and systems with legacy sensors and systems. Using XML messaging techniques removes the system interoperability limitation inherent in proprietary messaging used in current legacy systems.
