Research abstract

The AF04-101 topic solicitation states that the objective of this SBIR is to develop image and video compression techniques that will significantly increase the transmission capability of current data links by providing greater compression ratios without additional degradation relative to current techniques for targeting and tracking. In response, a completely new approach based on wavelet transforms was proposed. The feasibility of this innovative approach was demonstrated in Phase I. The new approach greatly increased the compression capabilities without degrading the image quality. In the Phase II program, this new approach will be fully developed. Also, image fusion and encryption capabilities will be added. The software will be implemented on FPGAs for real-time performance.
