Research abstract
Detection and identification of similar class military targets can be extremely difficult, especially at extended ranges. The wide variety of deployment scenarios further complicate this effort. In reality, the sensitivity of an imaging system and the contrast of targets can be strongly reduced. There have been several approaches (hardware solutions) to overcome the problem of optical image degradation. Each of them utilizes a different fundamental property of light to reject the backscattered component and to enhance the intensity and contrast of the detected image. In this program, Dymas Research proposes an innovative high performance photonic system for thermal imaging systems to improve target discrimination. We are confident that this unique thermal imaging system will provide a promising solution for target discrimination.
