Research abstract
This proposal provides a plan for continuing the successful first-phase effort for developing pilot behavioral models that perform flight operations near ships. Phase I provided functioning pilot models for launch and recovery of fixed-wing and helicopter vehicles but without airwake or ship motion disturbances. Phase II extends these models for use with large-scale unsteady airwake and ship motion disturbances and extends the vehicle types to include STOVL aircraft. The Phase I Option adds a tilt-rotor design to the list of vehicle types. Also, as a result of experience gained in Phase I, other objectives of Phase II include improvements in task and pilot model configuration management, and visualization of results. Finally, Phase II will address the issue of math model validation by producing a specification for required validation data and analysis of data obtained by flight test resources. The Task-Pilot-Vehicle model produced in this effort will function on a Windows operating system running Matlab and Simulink accompanied by the CASTLE vehicle simulation program.
