Research abstract

Rapid maintenance allows aircraft to be repaired and available for duty faster, thus improving aircraft availability and helping our fight against terrorism and aiding homeland defense. One method of improving repair time, and subsequently aircraft availability, is to simplify maintenance manuals by converting them to a simpler form of Internationally Standardized English, the Simplified English Language (SEL). BCL proposes developing an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), MorphoLink, which will offer tools for automatically converting existing manuals to SEL Standard English. This removes any ambiguity and inconsistency in the narrative and simplifies the understandability of the content. This project also aims to develop document creation tools that will help write SEL compliant manuals from scratch. The IDE is integrated with InfoLink Knowledge Management Center that hosts the IETM manuals in a secured XML repository.
