Research abstract

During Phase I we have identified the shock data and structural analysis state-of-the-art. We have found it inadequate with regard to structural analysis. We have identified an approach to structural analysis that combines a fully developed circuit board analysis program that does not address shock with structural dynamic theory that can be applied to fill the gap. In keeping with sound engineering practice the enhanced analysis program must be test verified. We are proposing a test program to fill the gap that is tailored to tune and verify the analysis product in a cost-conscious manner minimizing test machine and instrumentation costs. For fragility evaluation of non-structural system elements, we are proposing an expert system module that will be bound with the structural analysis module into an integrated product, ESET. ESET will include a probabilistic aspect as well as an explanation and advisory capability, such that users will be advised of risk, expected failure modes, and correction possibilities. ESET will be configured to interface with the MUVES software suite as a deliverable item.
