Research abstract

This Phase II project focuses on the development of a Reconfigurable Networked Smart System-on-chip (ReNSS) that will Improve interoperability to deploy a secure, robust, wideband network Create a low-power, radio-based network Employ energy-aware digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities Use dynamic, distributed and collaborative capabilities Achieve data-level interoperability and reconfigurable nodes for sensors, platforms, weapons, and forces Integrate all the aforementioned technologies onto a single VLSI chip ReNSS will combine the newly emerging results in ad-hoc wireless networking with the inexorable progress in very large scale integration (VLSI) to develop a wireless sensor node capable of autonomous operation and cooperation in a remote wireless network containing a range of sensors. The network will exchange the gathered information and respond ("behave") appropriately. Possible behaviors include conducting distributed processing of the sensor data, reconfiguring the sensor network, or communicating the sensor data to a different network, e.g. satellite or airborne communications asset.
