Research abstract

The phase II proposal is provided in two parts. The basic proposal is the transition of the RLW devices to produce a Fully Automated Bearing Residual Life Prognosis Wireless Sensor compatible with the DD(X) Total Ship Computing Environment Infrastructure (TSCEI). The option presented is a DD(X)-specific enhancement to accelerate this and three additional SBIR technologies. The accelerated effort to demonstrate these technologies on the DD(X) Integrated Power System (IPS) Engineering Development Model (EDM) will reduce risk to DD(X) of incorporating them in the Lead Ship Design. The basic proposal stands on it’s own and does not require the option for success. The option, however, depends on the basic proposal. Phase II Basic Effort: RLW has four technical objectives for the Basic Phase II effort. These objectives are listed below and developed fully in the proposal text. 1. Improve and verify bearing prognostic algorithms and models. 2. Build the S3NAP device for high-bandwidth analysis of component health. 3. Certify a FIPS 140-2 Compliant device for use aboard Navy ships 4. Conduct lab-based evaluation of the system.
