Research abstract

TiNi Aerospace herein proposes to continue with its development of Single Crystal Shape Memory Alloy (SCSMA) made from Copper-Aluminum-Nickel (Cu-Al-Ni). Proof of concept samples of this material were fabricated during Phase I and show significant performance gains over commercially available Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs). These include upto 9% shape recovery and or superelasticity, true constant force deflection, and ultra low transition temperature capability. The proposed Phase II effort focuses on process development and the manufacture of devices for targeted applications. Industry partners have been identified which will guide this effort toward specific aerospace applications.
