Research abstract

The objective is to demonstrate that the fusing of extracted Ballistic Missile (BM) threat feature data from S- and X-Band radar observations improves the probability of correctly identifying the lethal object, compared to using data from either an S- or X-Band radar alone. This effort will make use of synthetic and measured high-fidelity S- and X-Band polarimetric signature data for threat-representative major objects in a BM complex. RF discrimination algorithms will be developed to exploit variations in threat-representative object RF signature phenomenology at S- and X-Bands that were identified in Phase I as differentiating features. These differentiating features include: 1) distinguishing between objects with and without a penetrable material coating, 2) distinguishing between conically and cylindrically shaped objects, and 3) inferring object motion from specular flash observations.
