Research abstract

The objective of this effort is to develop a non-intrusive optical soot/particle analyzer (known as inTP) that can be used in a gas turbine engine exhaust. The instrument will incorporate two optical methods to measure equivalent optical smoke number, mass concentration, mean particle size for soot particles in the size range of 30 - 500 nm, and size/concentration distributions for particles in the range of 0.3- 50 microns. The instrument shall be rugged and simple to operate and shall be supplemented with an extractive-sample exTP measurement system with similar measurement range parameters as the inTP.
