Research abstract

This Phase 2 effort establishes a robust, flexible Rapid Attack Discrimination & Response (RADR) software evaluation testbed for design and evaluation of distributed attack recognition and defense planning capabilities for U.S. satellites. The RADR testbed will ingest satellite payload, state-of-health, warning sensor, and off-board data (including ground communications system, intelligence, space weather, and satellite surveillance data). It will be populated with prototype test articles for distributed Fusion, Response Management and Situation Awareness, built upon prior Air Force investments in the Neural Networks Abnormality Detection and Recognition (NNADR) data-driven prognostic toolkit that performs real-time fault detection and recognition for satellites (NNADR was delivered to Schriever AFB for evaluation on DSP, DSCS, and GPS.) The test articles will provide valuable risk reduction for SMC's Rapid Attack Identification, Detection, and Reporting System (RAIDRS) program. The fusion test article will build on the "satellite as a sensor" (SAS) capability for detecting and characterizing attacks on legacy satellites. The resulting Data Fusion and Response Management (DF&RM) dual node pairs are integrated throughout the battlespace into a DF&RM network providing local users with timely situation assessment & response decision aids. ALPHATECH will apply the standard Dual Node Network DF&RM architecture authored by their consultant, Dr. Bowman.
