Research abstract
We will deliver technology to realize Synergia's Validated Organizational Choice (VOC) methodology. Organizational choice is decision-making over participants, time, and organizational tasks. Validation is constructive argumentation, guided in its timing and emphases by the potential value of the choice, and disciplined to assess and seek validity over all ingredient models and evidence. Validated Organizational Choice examines the validity status of all claims on which models are built, discovers inter-dependencies among choices, and quantifies the degree to which choices ought to be coupled and harmonized. Argumentation methods and new decision-theoretic calculations promote validated organizational choice. Argumentation is critical exploration, oriented by the structure and tasks of the organization. Normative calculations quantify the value of information development, anomaly resolution, options development, and coordination. During Phase I, we integrated Synergia's technology prototypes within the Knowledge Kinetics (K2) enterprise architecture. User choice models expressed alternative plans for coalition forces opposing an asymmetric threat. We demonstrated choice publication, review by others, and the discovery and quantification of coupling relations over choices. During Phase II we will implement group-work technology to validate actor models and coordinate choices via argumentation, managed by normative calculations. The results will be integrated with Synergia's human-systems modeling, forecasting, and simulation technologies.
