Research abstract

Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center (OC-ALC) is one of the major service depots responsible for maintaining U.S. Air Force weapon systems, including the B-1B Lancer, the B-52 Stratofortress, the KC-135 Stratotanker, and the E-3 Sentry. Many of these planes have been in service for a great number of years, and thus suffer from fatigue and wear. A great deal of effort is put into inspecting these aircraft to ensure that they are in the best shape possible. Some of the continuous challenges faced by OC-ALC include reduction of maintenance time, increase in maintenance quality, increase in safety, and reduction of maintenance cost. Maintenance and inspection of aircraft systems and areas such as fuel tanks can be both time consuming and hazardous, which adds significant challenges to achieving the OC-ALC mission.
