Research abstract
Mobile-Mind will apply the innovative hardware-based physical signature and software-binding methodologies it developed and demonstrated in Phase I of this project to design and implement a series of software protection prototypes during Phase II. To accelerate prototype commercialization, Mobile-Mind will work closely with a hard disk drive manufacturer to surface unique physical signatures from the operation of a standard hard disk drive and to bind software directly to the drive. Deliverables include: · Process for capturing unique physical signatures from the operation of hard disk drives · Irrevocable binding of test software to these drives using the project's challenge/response methodology · Implementation and demonstration of prototypes · Measurements of stability, accuracy and performance · Detailed documentation of techniques, processes and results of binding · Partnership for production of commercial versions of the prototype Phase II marks a shift from research models to applied product development. Mobile-Mind will produce an early working prototype, then collaborate with Air Force liaisons, industry consortia and enterprise partners to evaluate and improve the performance and robustness of subsequent prototypes throughout the project. The final result will be a commitment from manufacturing and software partners for commercializing the innovative solutions developed through this project.
