Research abstract
In Phase I, Imagination Engines, Inc. (IEI) has made revolutionary advances in the field of autonomous robotics by developing deliberative neural architectures capable of self-originating strategies in navigating and mapping virtual reality environments. Having overcome critical technical issues associated with two-way communication between these neural structures and the virtual robots they govern, IEI plans to develop a commercially viable software package wherein self-determining virtual robots may be constructed, evolved, and tested within settings having either military or commercial significance. Essential to this software package will be an export facility through which the underlying neural architectures, fine-tuned within virtual reality, can be ported to actual hardware (or complimentary simulation environments), allowing for very rapid robotic prototyping. Conversely, this software package will provide an import facility through which real-world knowledge gleaned from hardware-based systems can be exploited within virtual reality. Together, these import and export facilities will allow for iterative cycles of robot development alternating between simulation and reality. With this development environment as its centerpiece, IEI will form a consortium of companies to pioneer the use of this package in developing new robotic products and services, likewise using it as a virtual showcase for a wide range of existing products.
