Research abstract

Triton Systems, Inc., a leader in materials development and processing has assembled a world-class team consisting of materials analysis, modeling, and optics testing to address the critical design and fabrication requirements of large space-based optical telescopes. During the Phase I portion of the proposed Phase II program, this team has produced castable active polymeric materials for shape and vibration control of lightweight, thin, polymeric optical membrane systems. Using the data generated during the Phase I portion of this program, Triton's team will further optimize the materials, processing, and control authority to develop a coating process to correct and maintain net shape parabolic membranes. The success of the proposed concept will provide a revolutionary approach to fabricating large, lightweight, space-based telescopes.
