Research abstract

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) seeks the development of computational blast modeling tools that can reconstruct heavy weapon repeated firing events in combat scenarios to quantify blast exposure and injury risk to nearby service members.áIn response to this need, Corvid Technologies will develop a blast modeling framework capable of simulating the blast state resulting from firing heavy weapons to quantify service member dose response from single or repeated exposures. We will employ our in-house developed, high-fidelity computational physics tools to model the entire blast scene from weapons system propellent ignition through the dose loading within the human body.á The Computational Anthropomorphic Virtual Experiment Man (CAVEMAN) model, a high-fidelity human body model developed by Corvid, will act as the surrogate for nearby service members.á Posed to interact with the weaponry, the CAVEMAN models will provide the ability to record the dose response throughout the service memberĺs body from acute or repeated blast events.á Corvid will use the results from the simulations to inform the cumulative dose response experienced by the service members due to multiple firing events.á
