Research abstract

This research effort will investigate the feasibility of an automated end-to-end sensor-to-weapon environment, within which user-specified rules of engagement can evolve from today's manual targeting and weapon-target pairing processes to highly automated real/near real time `kill chain' operations, thus enabling automated generation and delivery of targeting and retargeting data from an operator/analyst workstation to a precision guided weapon in flight. The software process to establish this targeting capability will require the application of agent-based technology and the integration of (1) software tools developed to support time-critical targeting operations, the air tasking order generation and update process, and weaponeering (weapon effectiveness and damage assessments), and (2) "final mile" tactical digital communications links to specific weapons in flight.
