Research abstract

SSGPO is proposing to demonstrate in Phase II the key enabling SiC and fabrication technologies for a high performance, low cost, Pointing Mirror and Gimbal System for Free Space Optical Communications Systems. The proposed Pointing Mirror and Gimbal System, PMGS, approach leverages and expands on current space qualified designs including well proven pointing mirror technologies and Silicon Carbide mirrors which have been successfully demonstrated on SSGPO space flight systems. SSGPO's PMGS phase 2 efforts will utilize matching funds from AFRL to perform detailed space flight design, analyses and fabrication of a cost constrained flight traceable PMGS.
