Research abstract

The growing complexity of aerospace systems has given rise to increased susceptibility to failure as a result of improper integration of the design and optimization of the components. Therefore, a critical need exists for improved analysis and optimization methods for modeling, evaluating, and optimizing performance. An exergy-based design/optimization method can relate every system component to overall system requirements in a framework of common metrics. Thaerocomp Technical Corporation (TTC) is proposing a high-fidelity, exergy-based, innovative software tool for system-level design and optimization of aerospace components and systems. This approach will significantly streamline the analysis, design, and optimization process, minimize ground-based testing, and substantially reduce certification time and costs.
