Research abstract

Sterile saline and sterile water for injection are essential for the treatment of wounded soldiers in the field. The recent shortage of IV saline in the US due to flooding of a single production facility in North Carolina revealed risks in the supply chain that provides these materials to the DoD. Triton Systems proposes to develop a containerized expeditionary capability to manufacture water for injection and produce IV bags of sterile saline solutions at far forward locations to support treatment of casualties during combat operations. We will leverage commercially available equipment currently capably of operating under Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulations and package this equipment in an expandable CONEX container to enable rapid transport using existing military logistics and ease of setup at its deployed location. The integrated system will be designed to comply with military standards such as MIL-STD-810 Environmental Engineering, MIL-STD-1472 Design Criteria Human Engineering, and MIL-STD-882 System Safety.
