Research abstract

Current events, including the War on Terror, serve to highlight the need for improved intelligence and collection management. Collaboration tools are becoming increasingly important to the DoD, Intelligence Community (IC), law enforcement agencies and others that are involved with our national security. There is a clear requirement for multi-level secure collaborative processing. The logical approach is to integrate current state of the art collaborative technologies with the security infrastructure in the IC. In Phase I of this project, we satisfied four key objectives to effectively demonstrate the feasibility of a standards-based Joint Collaboration Gateway (JCG) to implement multi-level secure collaborative processing. These accomplishments provide a sound foundation upon which to base the Phase II effort. For Phase II, Trident Systems proposes to build a prototype JCG based on identified standards and technologies, including XMPP, to support existing tools in use today by the military and IC. These defacto tools include Ezenia's InfoWorkSpace (IWS) and the public domain Internet Relay Chat (IRC) -based tools, such as mIRC and Xircon. Additionally, we plan to leverage advanced search and filtering technology to vastly improve the accuracy and effectiveness for processing the increasing volume of intelligence data.
