Research abstract
Ammonia and its compounds are a high energy-density source of hydrogen for electrochemical power. This proposal will develop the technology for using safe and benign ammonia compounds to serve as a fuel for ammonia-based fuel cells. Special membranes and electrodes will be developed during the course of this project. The technical objectives of the project are the development of a fuel cell, capable of 1500 Watt-hours per kilogram. Military benefits of a successful development include power source for micro air vehicles, portable power for soldiers and power for undersea vehicles.
