Research abstract

Data Fusion Corporation (DFC) and The Boeing Company propose the development of leading-edge tracking algorithms using Markov-Chain Monte-Carlo (MCMC) methods for Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers to make real time corrections and minimize navigation and timing errors due to signal multipath phenomenon using existing and modernized GPS signals (CA & M-Code on L1 & L2, C/A on L2, and the new civil safety-of-life signal on L5 (L1=1575 MHz, L2=1227 MHz, and L5=1176 MHz). Phase I: DFC will explore various multipath mitigation techniques using analysis and simulation tools to determine the best approach. In phase I, DFC will examine wavelet decomposition in addition to leading-edge MCMC as well as compare results to narrow correlators, double delta correlators (Stobe Correlator, Pulse Aperture Correlator), and the early/late slope technique (MET). As part of this research software will be created to detect the presence of multipath corrupted signals. Phase II: Implement the most promising techniques from Phase I and perform testing of the techniques under controlled conditions for the evaluation of their effectiveness
