Research abstract
This proposal describes a plan to develop and demonstrate a flexible, reliable, and cost-effective Pseudolite (PL) system, which can be used under a wide variety of situations and deployment conditions. The PL system with the appropriate navigation message format could be hosted on stationary and highly maneuverable platforms. During Phase I, we have investigated these issues and defined the requirements for a new message format to accommodate these higher update rates. During Phase II, we propose to develop the architecture for engineering design of the complete flexible prototype PL system consisting of 1. PL transmitters mounted on different platforms. 2. Infrastructure for providing timing and if needed ephemeris information to the PL transmitters 3. The advanced dual-frequency GPS receivers will be able to operate with both future and past GPS signal structures as well as the PL signals. The development of the prototype PL system will be greatly facilitated through our integrated software/hardware developmental systems. We also propose to perform end-to-end demonstration of the new PL system under different conditions.
