Research abstract
Impact Technologies in cooperation with the Boeing Company and Battelle, propose a web-based software tool capable of performing mission-based logistics and maintenance simulation analysis and support cost modeling for managing air vehicle logistics activities and life cycle costs. The simulation-based program, demonstrated during Phase I with full development proposed herein, will integrate multiple sources of legacy flight mission and usage data with various air vehicle support cost models to evaluate aircraft maintenance, operations and support costs in terms of leading cost drivers and component failure modes. A unique aspect of this proposed Phase II program is related to the capability of performing simulation-based usage analysis for a fleet of aircraft and correlating it with critical aircraft component failures, resulting maintenance required and the associated life cycle costs. An open systems software architecture using a CORBA-based (common object request broker architecture) infrastructure, XML data formats and web-enabled, agent-based database management is proposed for most effectively integrating the various sources of air vehicle data and models. At the completion of Phase II, the web-enabled software application program with easy-to-navigate graphical user interface (GUI) will be demonstrated and delivered to the USAF with complete mission-based simulation analysis capability and support cost models/databases. Throughout the Phase II effort, Impact will maintain a continuous dialog with personnel in the F-15 SPO, whose data will help to develop, validate and demonstrate the tools and who will thus be the initial beneficiary of the program deliverables.
