Research abstract

Aluminum nitride (AlN) and related color centers (e.g., Ti or Zr) will be developed as a new materials system for quantum applications with the goal to establish next generation, room temperature quantum sensors. Building on an existing materials and fabrication toolbox, Adroit Materials will realize all necessary parts for such sensors, including integrated quantum emitters and photonic structures. This includes the growth of high-quality AlN crystals, precise defect engineering to create color centers, and the development of scalable, large area fabrication techniques to integrate these elements into functional sensor devices. The project aims to demonstrate room-temperature quantum sensing capabilities, paving the way for practical applications in fields like biomedical imaging, environmental monitoring, navigation, and precision metrology.
