Research abstract
Not Available Mines have been a deadly ocean presence for over a century. The Navy's substantial investment in improved mine warfare capability concentrates on information, sensor and communication technology to detect and clear mines. High speed and high endurance vehicles to quickly deploy the mine hunter/killer technology preceding and following a Navy battle group is required by all of these technology investments. This project proposes an innovative design for a new mine warfare craft to perform mine hunter/killer operations. The design utilizes state-of-the-art hull, overall craft concept, propulsion, and other system technology to enable the successful development of such a mine warfare craft. The Phase I technical objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of a craft concept design leveraging advanced technology to fulfill the mine warfare mission. Phase III success potential of this project is high due to combined reduction in maintenance and operation costs through the use of innovative hull forms. Military and commercial applications include mine warfare, fishing, passenger ferry, inter-island shipping, salvage, rescue, and oil industry craft.
