Research abstract

THE PROJECT'S GOAL IS TO DEVELOP A SOFTWARE TOOL ("THE PRIMARY CARE MINDER") WHICH WILL ENABLE INDIVIDUALS TO CREATE A PRIMARY CARE PLAN FOR THEMSELVES AND/OR THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS. THE TOOL WOULD ANALYZE USER-ENTERED DATA TO DEVELOP A TAILORED PRIMARY PREVENTIVE CARE PLAN. THE PCM COULD BE USED BY CONSUMERS THEMSELVES OR BY HEALTHCARE PRACTITIONERS ON THEIR BEHALF. PREVENTI VE CARE RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE KEPT UP TO DATE BY REGULAR DATABASE UPDATES. THE PROJECT'S GOALS ARE TO (1) FURTHER DEVELOP THE PRODUCT CONCEPT, TO INCLUDE DECISIONS ABOUT DATABASE CONTENT, USER INTERFACE, AND OTHER DESIGN ISSUES; (2) ASSESS ITS TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY, INCLUDING HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS; (3) DEVELOP A SIMPLE, WORKING PROTOTYPE, TO PROVIDE PROOF OF CONCEPT; AND (4) REVIEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION DECISIONS. AT THE END OF PHASE I, PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS, (INCLUDING HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS, DATA FLOW DIAGRAMS, DICTIONARIES, DATA TYPE STRUCTURES, DATA BASE SCHEMES, AND SCREEN DESIGNS) WILL BE COMPLETED. THIS WORK WOULD ALLOW THE CREATION OF A COMPLETE SOFTWARE PACKAGE TO BE TESTED DURING PHASE II. THIS PACKAGE WILL BE TESTED AT ONE OR MORE SITES (TBA), PROVIDING FEEDBACK FOR FINAL DEVELOPMENT.
