Research abstract

Not Available The objective of this program is the development of a method of detecting the presence of partial discharges in high-power electrical modules. By partial evacuation of the module, the residual mass spectra is analyzed for contaminants that indicate gaseous byproducts of partial discharges. Initially, a standard residual-gas-analyzer system will be employed for determining the gaseous species that is most indicative of partial discharge activity. The instrumental design will be cost-effective through utilization on inexpensive thin-and thick-film gas sensors.
