Research abstract

The objective of the proposed work is the demonstration of the feasibility of using Lattice Block Materials (LBMs) in the cost effective manufacturing of high performance structures for aerospace and commercial applications. Specifically JAMCORP proposes to demonstrate the manufacture of a representative sample of missile fin cores using LBM technology.Lattice Block Materials are a new class of materials which make use of proven and well-understood concepts and principles of trusses and space frames. These principles are applied at a size and scale previously thought to be impractical to implement from a manufacturing point of view. JAMCORP has successfully developed and demonstrated a manufacturing process to produce components having unusually high strength to weight rations. The physical properties of LBM, such as temperature resistance and hardness, closely reflect the physical properties of the parent or base material whether it is any metal alloy, plastic, or polymer.
