Research abstract

Novel low temperature chloraoaluminate melts which are resistant to strong oxidizing agents (e.g. SCl3AlCl4) and which possess a wide electrochemical window will be developed. This will be carried out by substituting an organic cation for the alkali metal cation in the alkali metal chloride-aluminum chloride melts. Some chemical and physical properties of melts such as melting point, liquids range, and conductivity will be determined. Their stability toward strong oxidizing agents will be determined as well. The electrochemical window of these melts will also be measured.
