Research abstract

There is a vast array of air breathing jet propulsion cycles availble leading to a monumental problem when performing parametric trades during design or concept studies. A need exists for a user-friendly computer modeling tool which is capable of analyzing many air breathing propulsion system cycles efficiently. Human factors studies have been performed for real-time interactive computer displays for DoD systems. The technologies resulting from these real-time display designs can be used to produce an optimal graphical interface which will provide a means for interactive design and/or modification of air breathing propulsion systems. To enhance the utility of the interface, the analysis tool will operate using Windows on IBM-compatible PC computes. The propulsion system features will be selected from a comprehensive database that contains libraries of scalable cycle components, using the windows interface. Optimizing to a particular design requires parametric studies utilizing multiple combinations of components leading to excessive simualtion time when using antiquated methodologies. A human engineered windows graphical interface design will enable the user to perform parametric studies in an efficient and effective manner while examining and printing numerous cycle output plots.
