Research abstract

Dynamic aerodynamic coefficient data are required for the modeling of aircraft motion throughout the entire flight envelope. This is especially important for modern tactical aircraft designed for agility and maneuverability at high angles-of-attack. Traditional data reduction techniques for the determination-of dynamic derivatives from wind tunnel measurements have failed to provide results that are either consistent or usable. The principal investigator has performed sufficient research to establish that a new data reduction approach will succeed in providing a feasible method for determining dynamic parameters. This study will provide: (1) A detailed definition of the wind tunnel data parameters required to satisfy the new technique. (2) A working mathematical model of the data reduction method. (3) A comparison of results with existing data reduction methods.
