Research abstract

The measurement of infrared spectra can develop the composition and temperature of a target object. It can also determine the concentration of gases along a measurement path, or the size of particles or thin films. An excellent way to rapidly obtain spectra is with a Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer which allows detection of all regions of the spectrum simultaneously. What's new is a unique FT-IR sensor which is fast, small, totally vibration tolerant, and permanently aligned. The new FT-IR is based on a novel dynamically balanced interferometer which reduces the affect of external vibrations by over a factor of 100. The Phase I is a joint venture between Advanced Fuel Research, Inc. and On-Line Technologies, Inc formed to commercialize FT-IR technology. Government market: identifying hostile missiles, enemy aircraft, and ground targets from satellites or aircraft or poison gases on the battlefield. Commercial market: environmental and process monitoring.
