Research abstract

High performance infrared detectors with cutoff wavelength above 16 micrometers are highly needed for many applications such as early detection of long range missiles, pollution monitoring, and astronomy. Currently available detectors with high quantumefficiency and high uniformity in this wavelength range are extrinsic silicon detectors which have to be cooled below 10K. Here, we propose novel techniques for enhancement of the material quality and processing of Sb-based type-II superlattices as analternative for the detectors in the VLWIR range.
