Research abstract

This proposed Phase II will develop mechanistic computational models to analyze fatigue risk of metallic components designed for limited-life subjected to extreme loads and temperatures. VEXTEC specializes in software and services, through its commercial software, VPS-MICRO, that predicts and improves product durability and fatigue. The software leverages Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) principles to simulate fatigue at the microstructural level, accounting for the inherent variability in metallic components. The objective in this program is to enhance the commercial version of VPS-MICRO to simulate fatigue for operating conditions experience by limited life components (LLC). The new software will be called VPS-MICRO_LLC. The tool and computational framework shall be demonstrated with two different software modules; one for room temperature high stress (low life) fatigue of wrought beta annealed (BA) Ti-6Al-4V, and one for high temperature dwell fatigue of additive manufacture (AM) nickel alloy (NA) 718.
