Research abstract

A RADICALLY NEW FORM OF COMBUSTION IS DESCRIBED. IN THEORY THIS NEW FORM OF COMBUSTION IS CAPABLE OF BURNING NATURAL GAS AND OTHER FUELS WHICH DO NOT CONTAIN CHEMICALLY BOUND NITROGEN WITHOUT ANY FORMATION OF NOX. INITIAL EXPERIMENTS HAVE LARGELY CONFIRMED THIS THEORETICAL EXPECTATION, I.E., NATURAL GAS HAS BEEN BURNED WITH AN NOX FORMATION RATE THAT WAS MORE THAN A FACTOR OF TEN LESS THAN THE BEST WHICH CAN BE ACHIEVED BY THE BEST PRESENTLY AVAILABLE LOW NOX COMBUSTION TECHNOLOGY. THIS NEW FORM OF COMBUSTION IS ALSO EXPECTED TO GREATLY FACILITATE THE RECOVERY OF THE HEAT OF COMBUSTION, ALLOWING BOILERS AND OTHER COMBUSTION SYSTEMS TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY SMALLER AND LESS EXPENSIVE TO BUILD.
