Research abstract

Recent military operations demonstrate the reliance of U.S. military operations on space assets for intelligence, surveillance, communications, and targeting. Using anti-satellite methods such as lasers or kinetic energy vehicles, potential adversaries mayacquire the capability to attack space assets and severely degrade operations. To minimize risk to the assets, defensive counterspace techniques and attack detection are aggressively being pursued. Here, we propose a Multi-Agent Satellite System forInformation Fusion (MASSIF) to automatically assist operators in the detection, identification, and characterization of anti-satellite attacks. Our novel system integrates a fuzzy logic system-based approach for semantic data processing and a Bayesianbelief network approach for multi-source data fusion and situation assessment. We see considerable potential for this system in enhancing current and planned Air Force Rapid Attack Identification, Detection, and Reporting Systems (RAIDRS) approaches andtechnologies.
