Research abstract
Daryoush GEMS proposes to research and demonstrate the feasibility of developing a low-cost, low-latency serial optical link capable of supporting data transfers at data rates up to 8 Gb/s. The link will be based on a low-cost 10 GHz transceiver being developed by Focused Research (who will act as subcontractor on this project) and a low-cost injection-locked phase-locked loop technology developed by Daryoush GEMS. In addition, a low-cost encoder/decoder will be designed, modeled and simulated and available technologies for low-cost high-speed serializer/deserializers will be evaluated and a suitable technology selected for subsequent implementation. The link will be designed to support a high-performance commercial standard such as Scalable Coherent Interface, Serial Express, or Fibre Channel. Advanced modeling and simulation techniques will be used to model both the protocol and hardware to match the link characteristics to the protocol in order to achieve optimum throughput, latency, and system cost.
