Research abstract
Not Available A new generation of miniature munitions/stores including the Low Cost Autonomous Attack System, the Small Bomb System, and the Miniature Air Launched Decoy is entering development. These stores are to be carried and released by a variety of platforms including aircraft carried captive dispensers, flyout type canister dispensers, and independent platforms such as Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles. Electronics suites with close functional similarity are required in the various carriage platforms to provide interfacing to and control of the miniature store loadout. Significant economies across programs and logistics benefits could be achieved through development of a common electronics suite with tailorable variants for the different carriage platform applications, particularly if open system architecture and commercial off-the-shelf component use were inherent in the implementation approach. Development of such a common electronics suite requires a thorough understanding of the individual platform functional requirements and physical/packaging constraints. The effort proposed here would document miniature store carriage platform electronics requirements, investigate candidate implementation technologies, define a common electronics suite implementation concept, and develop a plan for concept verification in a representative implementation example such as a Tactical Munitions Dispenser (TMD).
