Research abstract

A design study is proposed for a simulator which permits an individual soldier to walk or run in a simulated environment, including turning, climbing, or descending on simulated rough or smooth terrain. Soft or unstable terrain surfaces can also be simulated. The device permits standing, crouching, kneeling, and prone stances, and does not encumber the soldier with mechanical attachments, wires, or handholds. The device has high inherent safety because there are no mechanically-closing gaps which could injure the user.
