Research abstract

During Phase I, RGS will design, construct, and demonstrate a proof of concept prototype for cost effective delivery of digital engineering and logistics information to the ship. Visual hypertext links will be established using full color digitized photographs taken during a survey process. These photos will be integrated into the user interface as full color digitized displays of the space and equipment of interest to the sailor. Information retrieval tools will be designed to allow the user to visually "walk through" a compartment and select a system or piece of equipment for which logistics information is required. Based on area selected by the user prototype will request electronic delivery of the desired logistic information. This information will then be delivered to the user desktop, without the user having to know where the information resides or how to operate the source system.
