Research abstract
Domain modeling and automated software construction offers significant potential for rapidly producing high quality software systems within many application domains, specially in mature and stable application domains where many variations of similar systems are generated. There is now a clear opportunity to leverage off the work that has already been done in constructing domain-engineering support tools to integrate their techniques and features into a comprehensive domain engineering and software construction environment.
This proposal explores the feasibility of extending the DARE domain analysis support prototype with the generational features of the IDeA and ROSE model-based construction prototypes for developing the architecture for a comprehensive domain engineering and software construction environment.
The envisioned architecture will support representation of domain capabilities in domain specific terminology, requirements analysis and reuse, verification consistency of commonalities and variabilities, and feature selection and integration.
The proposed environment will stress the integrated wide-spectrum support for domain engineering and model-based software construction. It will be based on an open architecture concept so that DARE, ROSE, and other domain engineering tools can later be integrated and tested. Phase II development and commercialization plans are included.
