Research abstract

The Navy seeks a novel and validated toolset for modeling finite-rate ablation effects on thermal protection systems (TPSs) for hypersonic vehicles. Corvid, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC), and University of Kentucky, propose the development and validation of a novel framework to develop finite-rate ablation models for Carbon-Carbon material systems. As part of this work, the team will collect test data on materials of interest at the UIUC Plasmatron X facility.
