Research abstract

Elkhorn Products' innovative Absolute Atmospheric Refrigeration System (AARS) addresses critical ACV cooling challenges through water-based "hydrovaporization" technology. Our experimentally-validated system achieves 64,640 BTU/hr cooling at 1610W (230V, 8A), delivering an industry-leading COP of 11.76. The compressor-free design eliminates synthetic refrigerants while reducing power consumption by 73% and noise to under 75 dBA. Through vacuum-based cooling enhancement and integrated air distribution, AARS ensures uniform temperature control while significantly reducing maintenance requirements. Phase I will validate system architecture across all ACV variants, demonstrating 55,000 BTU/hr cooling capacity, 200-320 CFM fresh air delivery, and MIL-STD-1474 noise compliance. Key innovations include fluid-dynamic vacuum generation, water-based refrigeration, and optimized SWaP characteristics. The system's modular design and natural refrigerant align with military sustainability goals while improving operational efficiency through reduced maintenance downtime and simplified servicing requirements.
