Research abstract

Airborne MILSTAR SATCOM Terminals require at least hemispherical coverage. In principle, the Dome Lens can expand the less than hemispherical coverage ofa single electronically scanned array or of a limited mechanical scan antenna toa more than hemispherical coverage. This effort aims to evolve practical designconcepts for a Dome Lens addressing the unique requirements of EHF frequencies andthe airborne environment. This research could lead to a SATCOM terminal designs requiring only one (1)antenna to provide full operationally required coverage. This represents costsavings and a solution to on-aircraft installation problems relative to multipleantenna solutions.
